The process of drywall taping

Drywall taping levels are basically degrees of work to be done on a wall. Each level contains the previous procedures. So, for instance level 3 includes levels 1 and 2. Drywall taping has 5 levels, the most commonly used level of finish that we recommend is a level 4 for all your living areas.
To properly finish drywall, you must first identify the right level of finish for the job, and this decision requires consideration of a variety of factors, including the location, layout, amount of lighting, planned paint or wall treatment, and even the number of windows. The most important factor of all is the location. This will determine if the area is unseen such as behind a kitchen cabinet in this case a level 1, or if it is in seen areas where it should be a level 4 or 5.
Our comprehensive service includes all 5 levels of drywall taping
- Level Zero No taping or any mudding is applied.
- Level One Fire taping is applied. This means one layer of tape covered in mud compound is installed on all joints.
- Level Two Boards and screws covered with one coat of mud. Tape embedded at joints and wiped with knife.
- Level Three Boards and screws covered with two coats of mud. Joints receive level 2 finish and one additional coat.
- Level Four Boards and screws covered with three coats of mud. Joints receive level 2 finish and 2 coats. The prepared surface should be coated with a drywall primer prior to the application of final finishes. This is the most common level in 95% of all custom homes.
- Level Five A skim coat of joint compound applied to the entire surface of a sanded level four finish. The surface shall be smooth and free of tool marks and ridges. This is much more expensive and usually done in ultra high end homes.
